A FUNDRAISER LIKE NO OTHER!
November 30, 2008 - Aliso Viejo, CA
The Project – The Children’s Rare Disease Network is proud to announce that its first fundraiser was conducted by a 7 year old boy named Sammy Cowan. Two days after the launch of The Project’s interim site, the charity’s founder was contacted by Sammy’s dad, Joe. Nicole Boice, Founder of The Project commented; ‘What an incredible surprise it was to get a message from Sammy’s dad, letting us know that Sammy had raised money on his own specifically for The Project. How moving, that our first fundraiser was created by a second grade little boy who wanted to do something to make a difference. How honored are we at The Project, that he chose our organization.”
Sammy an avid golfer, art and music enthusiast was anxious to sit down with our team to tell us a little about himself, his family and his friends. Philanthropy isn’t new to Sammy, who had also recently raised money with his older brother Jack (11), to provide birthday parties for kids in South Africa, the Alexander Township. The children there can’t afford many luxuries, and as a result birthdays are not celebrated. Sammy felt the need to help, and raised money to send to them to put smiles on their faces. He is an incredible kid, inspiring, and at the ripe old age of 7, someone whom we should all model our lives after.
For The Project, Sammy decided to draw a series of comic books that he would then sell to friends and family. His comic books included stories about super heroes and sea creatures, and for his efforts he raised a little over $60.
Nicole Boice, Lisa Rieden - Director of Development and a few of The Project’s Kids Advisory Board had the opportunity to sit down with Sammy to thank him and discuss his efforts. Makenna Rieden, Board Member, publicity co-chair, Max Boice, Board Member and Treasurer and Chloe Boice, Volunteer Board conducted the interview. Max Boice was impressed with Sammy and thought it was cool that he took something he loved, like art and drawing, and use it in a way to raise money for a cause – and in particular, The Project. He hopes that Sammy’s efforts will inspire more children and their families to help!
The Project is encouraging all children and their families to share with us their fundraising ideas and successes so that we can feature them on The Project’s site and showcase how we all can make a huge difference in the lives of children affected by rare disease!
